Well reader, today I got to know more of one of the most interesting people I've ever met. His name is Sam Richardson, and he's done quite a bit with his life.
From 62-66 he was in the navy, when he got out, he put himself through college by being a Disc Jockey. He also played guitar for years in many bands (during college.) He said that lost it's luster when he got married, (he was a musician for free beer and chicks :-) Then when he got married they moved to Australia (they were paying people to move there at that time, around 70-71. His wife didn't like it, and they decided to come back, but he wanted to see the country before he went back. So in a mutual aggreement she came home to the states and her mom and he hitchhiked around the country. He was a freelance artist in 72 (spent a little over a year hitchhiking around and selling art.) At that time he was a hippie, (long hair, long beard, and an army shirt. ;-) He came back to the states and got a job as a weatherman in the LBJ TV station in Austin, worked there for about 15 years. Now he's a tour guide here in Terlingua, TX. He knows quite a bit. (and he drew some pictures for us, I'll scan the one I got, a disgruntled duck, when I get back to civilization.
It's great birth control being around my cousins. One's 10(lauren), ones 14(kara). I hope to never have children right now.
My Father and Grandfather are hooking up a Speaker system throughout the entire house right now. Pretty cool stuff. They're gonna be the most technologically advanced house within 500 miles. DSS, s-video, all that sweet stuff. Right now, their surround sound speakers are better than any speaker in my house. (not for long though. )
My dad is sold on a DVD player. I'm sure he's getting one for christmas. The great thing about that is that they buy alot of movies, and I'll be borrowing them. (course, they'll borrow mine too. DOH. Sharing..what's up with that??)
Right now the only thing I'm not looking fowards to is the 9 1/2 hr. drive back to Dallas. sitting in the car sucks. And then I'll get back sun night, and everyone will be tired, and I'll be ready to go. I suppose I'll just alcholically enhance myself to sleep if noone wants to party. Damn.
One thing I miss here. Simpsons. Haven't seen the Simpsons in a week. Think I'm going into withdrawl. I'll have to bust out with my 3 full simpsons tapes when I get back to Dallas. (a 48 hr simpsons MARATHON!)
P.S. ANY OF YOU IN TOWN, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAPE THE SIMPSONS, 70'S SHOW, AND X-FILES THIS WEEK! I will be on the road and unable to watch them!!! Thanks friendly friends.
Listening to the Curve chinese burn album right now. Pretty great trippy techno stuff. (Kinda unlike techno in the fact that it has a continuous song line and lyrics, but still closer to techno pop than anything else. )
P.s. Moby's cool.
I'm almost through the 2nd dark tower book right now (rereading them again, I do just about every year.) Started it when I got out here, I will finish it in the car ride home. And I should have finished Blade Runner when I get back to dallas too. Thanks Mel for letting me borrow it. (I love the concept of the Mood organ.)
Catch you on the flipside reader..
Until tommorow
Your congenial host,
